Tubing really is easy if you stick to the rules.

1. NO use of the magic wand except

when checking your work.

2. NO use of the eraser except when

checking your work.

3. Work with your image magnified.

4. Take your time.

5. SAVE OFTEN

Here is what we are going to tube

Or you can learn on your own choice of image

the principals are the same.

Ok Let's begin

1. Open your image in Paint Shop Pro and take note

of the size in the bottom righthand corner.

2. Open a new image 50 pixels wider and taller than the image you are going to tube

and floodfill this layer with a dark colour not present in the image.

3. Click on the original image to make this the active image

and Copy (Crtl+C)

4. Now click on your empty image and paste as a new layer (Crtl+L)

this is so you can see all

around the outside of your image and you won't miss any edges

and leave lines of pixels around the outside of your tube.

5. Now we get to tubing. With the LASSO settings.

Click on the second tab in the freehand window (below)

and check precise cursor.

.. ..

Start to go round your image left clicking as you go.

The red dots indicate where I left clicked

When you have have got round to where you began tubing

double click to complete the selection.

You now have a selected area with marching ants.

6. When you have completed the selection hit the

Delete key or click on the scissors

once, twice, even three times until your edges

are smooth and white pixels gone. it now looks like this.

7. Work all the way round your image like this, small chunks at a time,

until you get back to the beginning and you have this.

Checking Your Work

1. Magnify you work and check all around the edges for

the odd pixel you might have missed.

I missed a couple indicated here in blue

Just get the lasso again with the same settings,

select and delete.

2. With the magic wand tool click the area outside the image.

Now click Selections/ invert.

As you can see I have missed a pixel, it might be tiny but

if i'd used this tube as it is in a tag this pixel would also

have it's own drop shadow when applied.

You can fix this with the Eraser This is the only time to use this tool

whilst tubing EVER.

Deselect (ctrl+D)

Now Just copy (ctrl + C) and paste as a new image (ctrl+V)

If your image does not go right to the edges you have

stray pixels, check it again.

Save As a .psp and you're done.
